Lunar Codex - Artwork archived on the Moon!

  

On March 1, 2022,  I had received a notification from Dr. Samuel Peralta (physicist, author, entrepreneur, art curator) that imagery of my artwork would be included in a time capsule that would be heading to the Moon. But I was not alone, far from it. Lunar Codex, founded and curated by Dr. Peralta would include creative works digitalized on nano fiche discs from 35,000 contemporary artists, writers, musicians and filmmakers from 233 countries, territories and indigenous nations. Three images of my paintings appeared in The Realism Issue (#67) of Poets and Artists Magazine back in September 2015. It was guest edited by Frank Bernarducci, and published by Didi Menendez. This magazine was digitized on one of the Codex Nova nano fiche discs. 

 

A first attempt of a lunar lander mission was launched on January 8, 2024. Peregrine Mission One built by Atrobotic Technology experienced problems shortly after the lander separated from the rocket. A propellant leak prevented the lander from completing its mission. The spacecraft would eventually be redirected back to earth, where it burned over the Pacific Ocean, six days later on January 18.

 

The second attempt was launched on February 15, 2024. The lunar lander, Nova-C named Odysseus was designed by Intuitive Machines. Codex Nova was among the small payload carried by Odysseus that successfully landed on the South Pole of the Moon yesterday evening, February 22. This historical event would mark the first American spacecraft to perform a soft landing on the Moon in over 50 years, since Apollo 17 in 1972.

The Odysseus lunar lander, including all payloads - is now a de facto Artemis Accords Heritage Site - and all the artworks, writings, music, and film on Codex Nova are now part of the designated heritage of humanity, to be preserved for posterity as signed by 36 countries to date.

Glorious Color - PoetsArtists

This book arrived in the mail this week. One of my paintings was selected with 50 most talented artists from around the globe in PoetsArtists latest publication entitled "Glorious Color". Inclusion in the book, INGENIOUS

   

Last summer, I was contacted by Carol Elder, a photo researcher who was working on a book written by the current Governor General of Canada, his Excellency The Right Honourable David Johnston and Tom Jenkins. She was requesting my consent to publish a photo of my painting " Edward R. McDonald's Crossword Game'' for an article about Mr. McDonald's inclusion that is entitled, "Wood-tile Crossword". Just in time to celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday, "INGENIOUS" is a richly illustrated volume of brilliant Canadian innovations whose widespread adoption has made the world a better place. The book appeared in my mailbox today directly from the publisher, Signal- McClelland & Stewart / a division of Penguin Random House Company. I am very honoured to been asked to contribute to such a publication.

Good things comes in threes

 East Coast Living Magazine - Summer 2016

In less than one month my artwork has made the front page and/ or has been featured on the cover of three publications. As the French would say, ''Jamais deux sans trois''. This latest probably pulls at my heart strings more than anything that has ever been published on my artwork even if the focus is not on myself as the artist. 

Whenever I complete a painting and send it off to a gallery, one can only hope that it will be adopted in a household where it will be appreciated and loved. This story features gallery patrons whom have been collecting my artwork since 2004. To my knowledge, they own at least nine of my paintings that includes two commission pieces. I've never met them in person or had any contacts since the commissions were done through the gallery as the liaison. However, I do feel a connection with them since they've embraced my art in the best possible way and own some of my favourite pieces.  

The Toronto based couple and their children have been spending parts of their summers on Prince Edward Island for more than 20 years and are currently the focus with a feature article in the 2016 Summer edition of East Coast Living Magazine which invites the reader to peak inside their newly renovated summer cottage. The two paintings featured below are among those that appear on the cover and on page 41. I read the article with a flutter in my heart and a lump in my throat.

Acrylic Artist Magazine - feature article and cover

Last fall I was contacted by the American based art magazine ''Acrylic Artist'' for a feature article and was interviewed by Amy Leibrock. The summer 2016 edition will be available at bookstores and newsstands on June 7. Very fortunate to have been given my first ever cover and my article is a full 10-pages. American Art Collector #96 / The Still Life Invitational

My artwork currently appears in the October 2013 issue of American Art Collector (#96) on pages 124-125 as part of The Still Life Invitational, opening today at the Elliott Fouts Gallery in Sacramento, CA. This exhibition has been held annually during the month of October since 2010, and I've had the privilege to take part in all four editions.

Post-Modern Times

Back in June, I was contacted by Stephen Smith, the founding publisher of rather new art publication called Post-Modern Times. The magazine really caters to aspects of realism and aesthetics in art. I am very fortunate to have been invited to participate in volume 2, and was granted a six-page layout to showcase my artwork. I am in very select company, because several artists whom I have admired greatly in the past are either in this issue or the inaugural volume.

THE STILL LIFE INVITATIONAL / AMERICAN ART COLLECTOR - OCT. 2012

 I am very privileged to have been invited to take part in The Still Life, an Invitational Group Show opening at the Elliott Fouts Gallery tomorrow, October 6. This is also my third participation in as many editions. As in previous years, I have an image of one of my paintings currently featured on page 150 of a promotional article in the Oct. 2012 issue of American Art Collector Magazine. I have the pleasure to hang my work alongside 10 amazing artists:  Elizabeth Barlow, Leigh-Anne Eagerton, Teresa N. Fischer, Thane Gorek, Michael E. Hockenbury, Sangita Phadke, Christopher Stott, Joanne Tepper, Kari Tirrell and Kathrine Lemke Waste. Opening reception will be held on October 13 and the show runs until November 1.

Group Exhibitions

I live on the Atlantic coast of Canada. During the month of October, I am participating in three group exhibitions. One on the west coast of Canada and two others on both coasts of continental United States. Not so long ago, this occurrence would have been only possible in a dream.

The Still Life, an invitational group show at the Elliott Fouts Gallery in Sacramento California opened on October 1 and runs through November 2. The opening reception was held last Saturday on October 8. I have three paintings in this exhibition, and am currently working on a fourth that will be a late entry. I've been very busy of late with other aspect of my life and could not make the deadline in time. I am fortunate to be included in a very select group of artists that includes- Jeff Cohen, Jelaine Faunce, Teresa N. Fisher, Todd Ford, Russel Harris, James Neil Hollingsworth, Mary Ellen Johnson, Judy Nunes & Christopher Stott. 

The Elliott Fouts Gallery has done a phenomenal job in promoting the show. I am grateful and fortunate to have more than my share of exposure. Held over Klimt is currently the image on the gallery's website home page. Red Velvet Cup Cake, an homage to Thiebaud was printed in full color in the Sacramento Bee (newspaper) in the Arts & Museum section and Black Forest Cup Cake, an homage to Thiebaud appeared along with an artist's statement on pages 164 & 165 of the October 2011 issue of American Art Collector. This last painting sold even before I shipped it.

In Atlanta Georgia, ''The Real Thing'', an invitational group exhibition celebrating the 125th Anniversary of Coca-Cola opened on September 16 and runs through the month of October at the Mason Murer Fine Art.  Among the artists taking part are Jelaine Faunce, Teresa N. Fisher, Todd Ford, Neil Hollingsworth, Kim Karlson, Otto Lange, David Malan, Rick McClury, Burton Morris, Michael Naples, Andrei Palmer, Christopher Stott, Sally Tharp, and Vic Vicini .

Last but not least, my painting ''May Blooms in a Mason Jar'' was juried into the Annual International Representational Show - AIRS (2nd edition) hosted by The Federation of Canadian Artists that is based out of Vancouver. I've was elected as an active member in the fall of 2004. Several of my past submissions into their juried thematic exhibitions were rejected, so I am especially thrilled to have a chance to exhibit among a exceptionnal group of artists on a larger platform. The exhibtion opened on October 4 and runs through October 23.

The Federation of Canadian Artists was founded in 1941 by a group of influential artists, including Group of Seven luminary, Lawren Harris, it continues to operate as a non-profit organization with chapters throughout Canada.  Dedicated to its aim of gradually raising the artists’ standards by stimulating participants to greater heights of achievement.



THE STILL LIFE

During this past summer, my studio time was spent producing three paintings for an invitational group show featuring still life paintings that opens October 2 at the Elliott Fouts Gallery in Sacramento, California. When the gallery invited me to partake, it was an offer I could not refuse. I would get to show across the continent with many talented artists new to me and four amazing artists: Christopher Stott, Neil Hollingsworth, Otto Lange and Paul Coventry-Brown, all of which I've communicated with in the past few years. It's as if all the stars aligned to bring us all together for this group exhibition.

As an added bonus this exhibition is featured in the October 2010 issue of American Art Collector. Two images of my paintings made it on the pages of the magazine. Held over Monet is featured on page 34 in the ''Upcoming show State by State guide'' while Red Current Jelly is included in the exhibition's promo poster on page 61. I was informed by the gallery that both of these paintings generated interest early on and sold even before the show was hung.

I wish to express my sincere thanks to Elliott Fouts and Michelle Satterlee for this great opportunity and for extending the invitation for future representation, making my artwork more accessible to the American market.

A monopoly of lollipops was named a Finalist in the Still Life/Floral category in the 26th Annual Art Competition of the Artist's Magazine. Winners and finalists are announced in the December 2009 issue of the Artist's Magazine on news stand now. Thanks to the judges for this honour.

International Artist Magazine

One of my painting is currently featured in the February/March issue of International Artist Magazine (#59) on page 59. I've just picked up a copy, and it's an exciting moment in this stage of my artistic career. I was contacted back in 2005 for the possibility of being included in their "Master Painter" section. A painting entitled "Dayliles and Japanese Lantern" done in 2004, had caught their attention. It is definitely a spirit booster, and I am honored by the accolade. View this LINK for details.
