L'arrivée

Acrylic on gessoed hardboard, 12 x 10''
2010 - #179

This painting is a commission piece from a photo study taken by the clients. It is only the second time that I do work from imagery not conceived by myself. The painting celebrates homecomings, as a couple moving into their beautiful new home and the arrival of their first child. Both events occurring in 2004.

It is a rather minimalist piece. My greatest challenge was to get the lighting right in order to create the proper atmosphere. The light in the wine bottle is coming from the window as the sun is dimly setting on a cold January day.

They will LOVE it, Alvin. The shades of blue and yellow are so effective in this piece - and of course, the bottle is beautiful!

Alvin!

I love the dingy yellows up against the deep grays!

Oh, and I thought of you while watching the Winter Olympics' opening ceremony, especially when the torch was being passed!

Dean, thanks for thinking of me.....it was an honor to be part of the Torch Relay....and the flame will burn in my heart during the Games and long after they are done!

Hi Alvin!... You nailed this commission...Bang on! Great light... and I really do loke the "minimalist quality " and miopic view in this piece of work. Sometimes the commission flies us beyond our own vision... and "We" gain more than the client!

Great painting!
Warm regards... and Good painting!

there is definitely atmosphere. the effect it has on me when I look at it is relieving, calming, comforting, celebratory- kicking off the shoes after a diligent day's worth of work or heart felt gratitude for a blessing bestowed.

in love planes of color.

inspiring!

It's difficult to paint from others photos, don't you think? Thye don't know know what it is we need to see, what we look for through the lens. Still, you did a knock-out job!
